UK people, it’s emergency alert test day, where are you going to watch the ensuing chaos? I’m thinking I might pop out to the local supermarket for it.
@an0key no, never. I have more than once bought clothes and then walked out of the shop wearing them. (Why yes, I did forget to pack swim shorts for a day at the beach)
Hey gang, I really need a job. UK, remote, something to do with computers.
I've been doing all sorts of software plumbing for a decade now, I can speak C, Java, PHP, Python, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, even a bit of Assembly for certain architectures in a pinch.
I might not be extremely specialized in any one area but you bet I can solve that one nagging problem you're not sure what specialist you need for. I've done frontend, backend, embedded, everything.
Please boost!
@heapy hot take: giving kids homework is also bullshit which is training them to do unpaid overtime in later life.
@Daojoan I’m a long time Things user but have been butting up against some limits with that around different contexts blurring into each other.
@Daojoan do you have any decent guides you could recommend? I tried using it last week and couldn’t really work out how everything fits together.
@internetsdairy I thought this was going to be a limerick, slightly sad when it wasn’t.
@0xabad1dea I think not allowing preorders did it - half the game playing population suddenly all trying to do credit card transactions at once.
@simple_sabotage way ahead of you there buddy. This thing packs so many duplicate files.
@russss I’ve been using it on my clock for a while. Having just discovered there are glyphs for weather (because of course there are in a font designed for planes) I think an update is in order.
@ryanjyoder @fesshole businesses can’t just pop to the bank and pay cash in for free, they get charged for cash handling. Also it costs money for someone to go to the bank, if you can even persuade a staff member to go to the nearest bank with hundreds to thousands of pounds of cash on them.
@an0key if it was happy to start with I’m going to go with indefinitely. It’s probably nominally 9v but with leeway for having more or less because people will plug any old shit into a barrel back connector.
@nicklockwood @0xabad1dea I’m really annoyed in general that anything involving some code is now AI. I heard a cronjob referred to as “our AI system” yesterday. That’s got as much AI as my alarm clock.
@pikesley sorry about that, I left the house again, which this week apparently means the heavens will open within 15 minutes.
@anon_opin have you tried reading books for grown ups?
@cmconseils thanks. I was going to get an early night and instead ended up reading about French overseas departments, and then about British territories overseas to compare governance structures.
Fascinating but not the early night with a book I’d planned.
@LuluHelle @gothintheshell I’m absolutely fuming that “pay not to be tracked” was found legal. GDPR had so much potential but of course the big corporations stepped right up to the line, and then made a business model out of crossing it.
@internetsdairy you’re assuming 19 year old me cared way more about the fuel they were selling than he did.
@internetsdairy I sold petrol to Matthew Letissier once, back in the days when he was famous for playing football rather than being a vaccine truther.
“You’ll get more conservative as you age” says the establishment, as I go from cheering on Tom Clancy novels in my teenage years to thinking maybe it’s time we gave anarchism a chance in my 40s.
@codinghorror @Daojoan imagine the disappointment of those early employees. One day you’ve been hired to work on a game! Living the dream! Then boom, “we’ve pivoted, and will now be focusing just on the chat component, and also we’re now selling it to CEOs”.
@mdione APU4s don’t really do UEFI in my experience, you want an MBR based boot image. Last I needed to get one to boot from USB this guide helped: https://teklager.se/en/knowledge-base/installing-ubuntu-over-serial-console-apu-board/
If the serial console is enabled you should be able to trigger a boot menu with (from memory) F12 to set boot order.
